- Vladimir Ristovski, Special Representative of the CoE Secretary General, has revealed that observers representing the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of Europe will monitor the local general elections and, as a result, will draw conclusions on the quality of Moldovan democracy. The CoE experts have recommended to the public and private broadcasting institutions to assure the media coverage of the election campaign, so as to avoid an information crisis. Their suggestions were made at the “Mass media and elections” conference, held under the CoE auspices in Chisinau, between April 17–18. The Media Division representative of the CoE has told the conference that the role of media in a fair coverage of the electoral process is crucial and “according to the CoE norms, the broadcasting institutions have to cover the entire political spectrum, so as to allow all voices, more or less convergent, to get access to the public or voters”.
