- Social Liberal Party (SLP) has held a press conference, informing the audience about the abuses committed in the electoral campaign for general local elections: misuse of administrative resources; intimidation of some SLP proponents and members; lack of actions as consequence to the earlier revealed abuses, etc. (after Morning Time newspaper).
At the same time, representatives of the Parliament Speaker made clarifications concerning some actions and information released by the SLP. Among others, it is said that the SLP statements “could be considered as an attempt to convince the public opinion that the elections would not be enough free and to hint to the fact that election campaign are not enough fair and the same could be the electoral results”. The release points to the fact that it is the electoral contestants responsibility “to be correct and to participate in the electoral campaign in conditions of a fair competition, to show out respect to political opponents and citizens of the Republic of Moldova”. - The Court of Appeal has annulled the CEC decision of May 11, 2007 that obliged the Chisinau Mayoralty to re-examine its disposal with regard to the authorisation of some electoral events, on June 1. The Court has ruled out as without a legal ground the CEC decision. The Christian Democratic People’s Party (CDPP) representatives, that demanded an authorisation to organise an electoral event on the same day, have stated that will appeal on the Court of Appeal decision to the Superior Court of Justice.
- At a meeting with the Ambassador Dieter Boden, chief of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the chairman of the Supreme Court of Justice Ion Muruinau, has stated that the courts will examine in due time, in accordance with the Electoral Code, all possible appeals related to the election campaign. In this context, Muruianu has underlined that a recently approved disposal establishes emergency working hours for the judges and other personnel of the Superior Court of Justice for the June 2, 3 days.
- At a press conference held in Chisinau the Governor of Gagauzia Mihail Formuzal has told the audience about the organisation of elections in the region. According to Formuzal, 12 political parties are running into elections in the region, that is a record. On average, 5 persons are competing for a mayor and counsellor seat. In Comrat Municipality 3 persons are competing as independent candidates for the mayor office. The electoral contestants that have nominated more candidates are, as follows: Patria-Rodina-Ravnopravie Electoral Bloc, Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova and Party of Social Democracy. Formuzal has told the audience that regional authorities are interested to ensure free and fair elections in the region. In this context, he revealed that all contestants have been granted for free with equal timeframes to make known their electoral programmes, the leadership of the region hold regular meetings with the contestants and transparent ballot boxes have been ordered.
- The Chisinau electoral district council has warned Liberal Party, Christian Democratic People’s Party, “Our Moldova” Alliance, Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova and their candidates to the Chisinau mayor office over the cases of impropriate posting of electoral materials, as well as over the fact that electoral materials are published without being stated the number of copies and their provenience.
