The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) has approved a decision on financial reporting by electoral contestants as of 26 May 2007. The document warns also some electoral contestants over not providing the information on opening of a labeled “Electoral fund” bank account. General Prosecutor Office has been informed on “financial sources used by the Party of Law and Justice and European Party so that to publish electoral ads. materials”. During the 31 May — 6 June period, BBC Chisinau Office will air a special program on local elections topic. BBC will air news, interviews, debates and analytical programs, with politicians, political analysts from Moldova. The program will be aired in the evenings, on the 97.2 MHz frequency in Chisinau and on other BBC frequencies outside capital city. (after BBC)
Oleg Serebrian, chairman of the Social Liberal Party (SLP), has told the audience at a press conference that his party, other centre-right-wing and centre-left-wing parties will organize protest actions in a move to demand local elections not be validated and early parliamentary elections. Serebrian has grounded the necessity of these actions on massive infringements occurred in the election campaign, and on fears that ruling party and its representatives in the local public administration will violate electoral laws on Election Day. At the same time, the SLP chairman has revealed some drawbacks of the existing Electoral Code, and the necessity to address them after election campaign concludes. (after Info-Prim Neo)
Ministry of Interior Affairs (MIA) has approved a special working schedule for Election Day of June 3, so that to ensure the public order at the polling stations and in all living places in the country. A similar schedule is to have groups of employees working in the telecommunication and energy sectors.
According to MIA, to date 40 cases of electoral law violation have been found out. Most of them refer to inappropriate posting of electoral ads. materials.
