According to Electoral Code, the period allocated for electoral campaigning expires today, 1 June 2007. On 3 June, about 2.4 milion voters are expected to vote at 1934 polling stations.
Totals made by CEC on 1 June 2007 show that political parties registered as electoral contestants have spent about 14 million lei. Four of 21 registered contestants at national level did not submit information or did not open special accounts, for which reasons there received warnings from the CEC.
CEC accredited at electoral bodies 1872 individuals as national observers and 240 as international observers to monitor elections on voting day.
Within a meeting with Speaker Marian Lupu, the head of the delegation of the Congress of Regional and Local Powers in Europe (CRLPE said that essential progress has been registered in administration and organisation of local elections. At the same time, the members of the European delegation pleaded for ensuring equal access to electoral contestants to the media and for transparency in electoral law interpretation. Marian Lupu mentioned that Parliament will pay special attention to the recommendations laid down in the election monitoring reports and, if necessary, will operate new amendments to electoral laws.
