The Chisinau Centru District Court validated on 22 June the results of the elections to the office of mayor of Chisinau municipality. The new elect mayor has started to exercise this position with effect of today.
In Buteni village of Hincesti district hundreds of people have protested against the decision of the local court not to validate the mandate of the mayor elected within general elections. The demonstrators were stopped by carabineers and policemen. (Pro TV)
The mayors and councillors elected on behalf of the Democratic Party have published a communique qualifying voter’s option expressed in the recent local elections as a categorical sign that the citizens of Moldova “have grown tired of the incompetence, brutality and arrogance of the ruling party”. DP local elected officers stated the election results have given political forces of democratic orientation the chance “to contribute considerably to the consolidation of local public administration, to take Moldova on the path to democracy, to real European integration”. To achieve these objectives, the signatories have stated their firm readiness “to participate in the setting up of post-electoral alliances in all structures of local power with other democratically oriented parties, as an efficient and sustainable alternative to the current governance”.
