- Election funding promises
- The Central Electoral Commission of Gagauzia accepted on February 14, 2008 the last applications for the registration of candidates to the People’s Assembly. It has received applications from 162 persons and registered 131 candidates until now. The CEC will make a decision regarding other candidates on February 18. The registered candidates represent the following parties: 25 candidates on behalf of the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova; 8 on behalf of the Democratic Party of Moldova; 8 on behalf of the Social-Political Movement Ravnopravye; 6 on behalf of the Social-Democratic Party of Moldova; 5 on behalf of the European Action Movement; 3 on behalf of the Our Moldova Alliance; 3 on behalf of the Republican People’s Party; by one candidate on behalf of the Democratic Agrarian Party and the Socialist Party. Seventy-one independent candidates have been registered until now.
- The governor (Bashkan) of Gagauzia, Mihail Formuzal, and Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev have discussed the funding of the elections for the People’s Assembly. The Moldovan premier ordered the Ministry of Finance to allocate the necessary funds to the Central Electoral Commission of Gagauzia in order to ensure a stable activity of the commission and to hold the scrutinyþ
