- Registration of 19 international observers
- Opinions about electoral campaign and intimidation of some candidates
- The Central Electoral Commission of Moldova has registered another 19 international observers to monitor the elections for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia. Eighteen observers represent the OSCE and another one the Czech Embassy to Moldova.
- The socio-political Economic Action Movement (EAM) signals intimidation of candidates running for the People’s Assembly in ATU Gagauzia. EAM leaders reported that an electoral candidate nominated by their movement and employed in a public institution has been threatened to be dismissed if he does not withdraw from the electoral campaign. EAM leaders noted that the central Government and mass media are not interested in the electoral campaign in Gagauzia, adding that the ruling party has lost its positions and it does not care much about this campaign. EAM deputy chairman Ion Neagu stated that three groups representing the interests of the Gagauz Bashkan (governor), Comrat mayor and incumbent chairperson of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia will compete for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia. He criticised the electoral legislation and described it as restrictive, as it allows only persons who have turned 20 years and reside the electoral district concerned for at least 3 years to stand as candidates, warning that thus representatives of political parties and independent contestants are restricted from running in other localities, even if they are from Gagauz autonomy.
