- First LPHR monitoring report
- Observers of the League for the Protection of Human Rights (LPHR) has released the first report on monitoring of the elections for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, raising concern with the passiveness of the electoral campaign and contestants. Although they did not observe breaches which could affect the results of elections, they signalled the following shortcomings: unclear legal status of local laws; their discordance with the Election Code of Moldova; meddling of central public authorities in the electoral process; use of administrative levers by certain functionaries of the Comrat Executive with the purpose to raise electoral advantages; delayed allocation of funds for elections. According to LPHR chairman Paul Sturzescu, 140 observers will monitor the March 16, 2008 elections and a hotline 08003 8003 is functional throughout the campaign and on the Election Day.
