The first round of elections for the Governor post of Gagauzia was held on December 3, 2006. 57 177 of voters participated in elections (62.6% out of all voters included in electoral lists). None of the contestants did not gather the required number of votes to be elected. Thus, according to the legislation, the first two contestants with the highest number of votes (
M. Formuzal [33.89%] and
N. Dudoglo [31.40%]) promoted into the second round of elections.
In the second round of elections, on December 17, 2006, 59 220 out of those 92 108 voters included in electoral lists participated. Mihail Formuzal gathered 32 890 of votes, i.e. 56.23% and won thus the Governor post.
On December, 29, 2006, the investiture procedure of Mihail Formuzal as the Governor of Gagauzia for a four year term was held.
