Appeal

October 18, 2006

to President of the Republic of Moldova, Chairperson of Supreme Court of Justice, Court of Justice of Cahul district, foreign diplomatic missions to the Republic of Moldova

In their appeal addressed to President of the Republic of Moldova, Chairperson of Supreme Court of Justice, Court of Justice of Cahul district and foreign diplomatic missions to the Republic of Moldova the representatives of different political parties of Moldova remarked that more than a year and a half ago against independent candidate for the position of Governor of Gagauzia, Mihaiä Formuzal, were commenced several penal proceedings which are still being examined by the Court of Justice of Cahul district. After Mr. Formuzal’s recent registration in quality of electoral contestants for the upcoming elections of the Governor of Gagauzia, the mentioned Court of Justice refused to satisfy his request of postponing hearings of the penal cases until the end of election campaign. The political parties’ representatives who signed the appeal consider that the refusal to postpone the penal prosecution against Formuzal artificially injures his electoral rights and asked the justice and state bodies to create an atmosphere appropriated for a fair electoral competition.

The Appeal was signed by:

Dumitru Bragis, Party of Social Democracy
Oleg Serebrian, Social Liberal Party
Victor Ciobanu, Social Democratic Party
Nicolae Andronic, Popular Republican Party
Valery Klimenko, Social Political Movement “Ravnopravie”
Valentin Krilov, Party of Socialists
Vasili Mikhailov, Congress of Russian Communities of Moldova
